Fairfield by Marriott Kolkata has announced the appointment of Somrup Chanda as its new General Manager, effective January 2026. In his new role, Chanda will be responsible for overall hotel operations, guest experience delivery, and strategic growth as the property strengthens its position in the Kolkata hospitality market.

The appointment reflects the hotel’s focus on experienced leadership to drive consistent service standards and long-term performance. Chanda will lead teams across operations, revenue strategy, and guest engagement, aligning the hotel’s objectives with brand expectations and evolving market demand.

A Career Spanning Global Hospitality Brands

With over two decades of experience across India and the Middle East, Chanda brings a strong background in hotel operations, revenue management, marketing, customer experience, and pre-opening projects. He began his hospitality journey with Hyatt in food and beverage, progressing through key roles at Grand Hyatt, Park Hyatt, and Hyatt Regency, gaining deep operational exposure across luxury and upscale segments.

Experience with Marriott, Accor, and IHG

During his career with Marriott International, Chanda contributed to the launch of India’s first Sheraton Grand and played a significant role in the pre-opening and rebranding of Indore Marriott Hotel, where multiple award-winning concepts were introduced. His professional journey also includes senior leadership roles with Accor in Kolkata and IHG in Abu Dhabi, further strengthening his multi-brand expertise.

Recent Operational Leadership in Bengaluru

Most recently, Chanda served as Director of Operations at Bangalore Marriott Hotel Whitefield in 2023. During this tenure, he focused on stabilising hotel operations, enhancing guest satisfaction scores, improving revenue performance, and positioning the property as Karnataka’s largest single-branded hotel.

Mandate at Fairfield by Marriott Kolkata

In his new assignment, Chanda will focus on operational excellence, guest experience enhancement, and strategic growth initiatives. His mandate includes team alignment, service quality improvement, and supporting the hotel’s long-term commercial and brand objectives. He will be relocating to Kolkata with his wife Debanjali, daughter Saanvi, and their pet August.
