Sharoni Sharma Appointment as General Manager at Courtyard Shillong

Courtyard by Marriott Shillong, a mid-scale international hotel in Meghalaya’s capital, has announced a key leadership transition with the appointment of Sharoni Sharma as General Manager, effective February 23, 2026. The appointment comes at a time when Northeast India is gaining sharper visibility on the domestic hospitality map, positioning the property to play a more decisive role in business, leisure, and social travel across the region.

Operated under the global portfolio of Marriott International, Courtyard by Marriott Shillong remains the only internationally branded hotel in the city, making leadership continuity and operational depth critical to its long-term market positioning.

Career Foundation

Sharma’s professional journey has been shaped by exposure to varied operational environments across India’s luxury and upscale hospitality landscape. Early in her career, she developed a strong grounding in service fundamentals and guest engagement, learning to manage complex hotel ecosystems where consistency, cultural sensitivity, and operational discipline were equally important.

Her progression through marquee properties allowed her to understand the nuances of resort-style operations as well as urban luxury hotels, sharpening her ability to balance service delivery with backend efficiency. These formative years played a significant role in shaping her approach to leadership, with an emphasis on accountability, team alignment, and structured operational frameworks.

Most Recent Role and Key Achievements

Before taking charge in Shillong, Sharma held senior leadership responsibilities at The Leela Palace Jaipur, where she worked closely with cross-functional teams to drive performance across rooms, food and beverage, and guest experience metrics. Her tenure involved navigating high guest expectations in a heritage-led luxury environment, requiring careful orchestration of service standards, people management, and revenue performance.

Earlier assignments with The Roseate, JW Marriott Hotel Bengaluru, and The Westin Goa further broadened her operational exposure. Across these roles, Sharma handled diverse guest segments, seasonal demand cycles, and multi-outlet food and beverage operations, contributing to stable performance and team development in competitive markets.

Education and Professional Competencies

Sharma’s academic background has supported her operational career by providing a structured understanding of hotel management principles, financial controls, and service design. Over the years, this foundation has translated into practical competencies across operations planning, talent development, and guest experience strategy. Her leadership style reflects a methodical approach to problem-solving, supported by clear communication and performance-driven execution.

Scope of New Role

As General Manager at Courtyard by Marriott Shillong, Sharma will oversee end-to-end hotel operations, including rooms, food and beverage, sales, events, and people functions. A key focus of her mandate is strengthening the hotel’s positioning as a preferred venue for corporate travel, destination weddings, and social gatherings in Northeast India, while maintaining strong brand alignment with Marriott’s global standards.

Commenting on her appointment, Sharma said, “Shillong is a destination with incredible character, warmth, and soul. Leading Courtyard by Marriott Shillong is not just a professional opportunity for me, but a deeply meaningful one. This hotel represents pride for the region, and I am excited to work alongside our team to create experiences that feel personal, thoughtful, and memorable for every guest.”

From an industry perspective, the appointment signals the brand’s intent to deepen its leadership bench in emerging regional markets, recognising the growing strategic importance of Northeast India within India’s hospitality growth narrative.

Sharma’s appointment is expected to reinforce Courtyard by Marriott Shillong’s operational stability while supporting its evolution as a landmark hospitality address in Meghalaya.
