Jharkhand is a state blessed with enormous natural and cultural beauty. It has witnessed a steady rise in foreign and domestic tourists since 2000. There has been an extraordinary increase in the number of foreign and domestic tourists in the state of late.

Jharkhand has natural wealth, forests and springs, and is liked by people globally. The number of foreign tourists in the state was only 172 in the year 2000, which increased to 1,76,043 in the year 2019. This figure is only going up year after year.

As per the report of India Tourism Statistics 2019, the ranking of the state has also increased due to increase in the number of foreign tourists in the state. The national ranking of Jharkhand was 17 in the year 2018 in terms of foreign tourists coming to the state. This year, it has jumped to the 16th rank.

Alok Prasad, an official at Tourism department said, “The growth of tourist including domestic and foreign is mainly due to increase of hospitality sector. Many good hotels are functioning around the year as many hotels have under gone renovation with increase in facilities.”

The Jharkhand government is promoting tourism with various initiatives like Religious Tourism under which Parasnath Development Authority has been set up to manage Madhuban and Parasnath. Itkhori and Basukinath would be developed on the lines of Deoghar.

The state government is also promoting eco and rural tourism.
