The Brime Robbins-designed InterContinental Barcelona will launch in late summer following the refurbishment of an existing hotel.

InterContinental’s latest outpost, which will feature three restaurants and a huge spa, will open in Barcelona’s Montjuic district later this year – the luxury brand’s second hotel in Spain.

Creating Barcelona’s newest luxury destination

On opening, InterContinental Barcelona promises to offer the signature brand experience, defined by modern luxury design and service, a passion for gastronomy and a knowledge of local culture allied to international know-how. Taking over a site that was previously home to Crowne Plaza Barcelona, the property will soon emerge from a complete transformation that aligns it with InterContinental’s sophisticated aesthetic.

The hotel has been designed by Spain-based partnership Brime Robbins, with the property now housing 273 spacious guestrooms, 17 junior suites and a 180 sq m presidential suite, as well as an array of lavish facilities.

“As the largest luxury hotel brand in the world, with decades of luxury hospitality experience across the globe, we are delighted to announce the arrival of an InterContinental hotel in Barcelona, bringing the brand’s international knowledge, sophistication and our understanding of local culture to this vibrant city,” said Enrique Escofet, managing director of InterContinental Barcelona. “We look forward to continually exceeding our guests’ expectations as they explore Barcelona, its animated culture and the world-class art and design it is famed for.”

Michelin-starred chefs and exceptional facilities

The newly opened InterContinental hotel will be home to three restaurants, one of which is to be led by a Michelin-starred chef, along with a cocktail bar, the Rooftop 173 and the Terraza Montjuic for events.

There’ll also be a 1,200 sq m spa and more than 3,000 sq m of space for hosting meetings, conferences, banquets and exhibitions. The property’s 18 meeting rooms will have a capacity for 1,200 people in total and allow organisers to run a range of interactive experiences, such as virtual reality and video mapping.

InterContinental Barcelona will join the brand’s existing Spanish hotel in Madrid, along with more than 200 InterContinental Hotels & Resorts around the world. IHG currently has 26 hotels across the country, including five in its Luxury & Lifestyle collection.
