A Donegal hotel has been named as one of the best in the Republic.

Lough Eske Castle in Co Donegal is second best hotel in the Republic in the 2021 Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards.

Nestled within a 43-acre wooded estate on the shores of Lough Eske, the castle is the county's only five-star hotel.

Donal Cox, General Manager, said: "It's a great honour to be recognised as one of the top ten hotels in Ireland by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler Magazine for the fourth year running.

"This is a true reflection of the dedication and hard work the team at the castle have showcased over the last few years, especially in such challenging times for our industry," he said.

"We strive to continually provide the best of Donegal hospitality to our guests and look forward to welcoming you all to Lough Eske Castle".

A Dublin hotel has been named the best.

The Marker, which is described as a "sleek, contemporary landmark" was named the number one hotel in the Republic in the 2021 Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards.

Overlooking the waterfront in Grand Canal Square, the hotel is part of the regenerated Docklands.

The striking geometric hotel is best known for its sublime cocktails and glamorous rooftop bar which overlooks Dublin's `Silicon Docks', a Dublin nightlife hot spot.

The awards, which take place each year, are considered one of the most important benchmarks for hospitality.

More than 800,000 Conde Nast Traveler readers submitted responses rating their travel experiences across the globe to provide a full snapshot about the places they can't wait to return to next.

Also featured in the top 10 was Ballyfin in Co Laois, Conrad in Dublin, Park Hotel in Kenmare, Co Kerry, The Morrison Hotel in Dublin, Kilkea Castle in Co Kildare, The Merrion in Dublin, The Westbury in Dublin, and Ballynahinch Castle Hotel in Co Galway.
