Chelsea Hotel, Toronto Re-affirms Commitment to Sustainability

TORONTO — The Chelsea Hotel, Toronto has re-affirmed its commitment to sustainability and will continue with a Silver-Certified status by EarthCheck. As Canada’s largest hotel, with 1,590 guestrooms, environmental protection is one of the four focus areas in its corporate sustainability program, CONNECT.

In recognition of the Chelsea Hotel’s environmental initiatives, the Hotel Association of Canada (HAC) continues to award the hotel with a four out of five Green Key ECOmmodation rating. The hotel has also been awarded a four out of five Green Key Meetings Rating, showing the significant advances made to protect the environment in regards to meetings, convention facilities and practices.

Other initiatives from the Chelsea Hotel, Toronto include rooftop bee gardens; ongoing partnerships with Eco Resource Management Inc. to ensure waste is diverted to recycling, as well as with local growers and suppliers to provide guests with nutritious foods; and the installation of two Sun Country Highway’s (SCH) publicly accessible vehicle-charging stations and a Nedlaw “Aspirated” Living Wall in its lobby.

Additionally, the hotel shows its commitment to Earth Hour and Earth Day by turning off non-essential lighting, offering “Meatless Monday” menus, encouraging daily activity and less transportation and participating in the Downtown Yonge BIA with its annual clean-up of the downtown core.
