Ian Schrager has lent his magical touch to a new EDITION property in Abu Dhabi, with an unforgettable facade and interiors to match.

We take a look inside this hip hotel, which is brimming with Arabian charm.
Fearless facade to feast the eyes on

Hotels are always chasing that Insta-friendly backdrop, and given its standing with the rich and famous, it’s perhaps no wonder that the latest addition to the EDITION roster is as Instagrammable as they come.

With a geometric white facade whose criss-crossing columns reflect the blinding sun, the Abu Dhabi EDITION is most certainly unforgettable.

Visitors would be forgiven for expecting the interiors to be just as minimal and contemporary as the exterior structure, but upon entering this trendy new hotel, it is immediately apparent that there is a surprising treat in store.

Arabian nights and days

While famed hotelier Ian Schrager is behind the overall concept of the EDITION hotel brand, this time it was hospitality design experts Wimberly Interiors that were on hand to create the extravagant interiors, which recall steamy Arabian nights and sweltering days.

The design firm was involved from the beginning, allowing them to make their mark on the interiors in conjunction with the design and operational team. The note they have struck is modern Middle East, with traditions of Emirati culture at the heart of the concept.

“Due to the location on the Al Bateen peninsula, the design concept grew naturally from this setting,” says Rachel Johnson, senior vice president and studio director, Wimberly Interiors.

“In collaboration with Ian Schrager Company, we drew inspiration from local elements and reflected this in the building’s fabric.”

The result is an upscale offering which blends the international with the local, creating open, airy spaces, with flourishes and details that are comforting and familiar, connecting the guest to the culture and environment around them in Abu Dhabi.

Rich fabrics in the carpets, curtains and furnishings are typical of this region, but when paired with hardwood floors, simple furniture, swathes of greenery and carefully curated lighting, the effect is that of a high-end desert oasis. Amenities and features

Apart from the inimitable design, the hotel also boasts multiple stellar features that are sure to draw crowds.

EDITION Abu Dhabi has several destination restaurants in-house, from the Mediterranean-style Alba Terrace to The Oak Room.

The Annex is a social space where both guests and locals alike can come to mingle, or visitors can head up to the rooftop bar and enjoy the amazing panoramic views from the terrace.
