UAE border reopening raises hope for Oman tourism

Striving hard to achieve in the face of difficulty, the tourism sector which has gone through a very rough phase as a result of the global pandemic, is all prepared to receive a massive shot-in-the-arm as the sultanate is all geared up to reopen its international borders with the UAE from September 2021.

A well-known industry expert has informed sister title Arabian Business that he is hopeful that the benefits of reopening the borders to be felt on both sides of the boundary.

Of late, Oman raised its ban on the entrance for completely vaccinated individuals from 18 countries, including India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The citizens of Oman, those who do not require a visa to travel to the country, and those who can get hold of an arrival visa, will be permitted into the country from September 1st. The ban on arrival which was compelled in June caused stranding of expats in their countries for over two months.

Also, Oman has declared that it will permit UAE travelers to enter the sultanate by crossing land from September 1st as well.

To quote Bruno Trenchard, senior manager, Hotels and Hospitality, CBRE Middle East, “The reopening of the borders and easing of travel for Omanis in the last few months is also a good sign for the Dubai hospitality market. Omanis have always been a very important source market for the city.”
