Choice Hotels International Inc. on Thursday will officially open Cambria Hotel Boston across from the MBTA Broadway Red Line station. The hotel is the first to bear the Cambria brand in Massachusetts and one of the few new hotels to be developed in South Boston.

Rockville, Maryland-based Choice Hotels (NYSE: CHH), a hotel franchisor, will hold a ribbon cutting on Thursday with Cambria’s developer, Boston-based City Point Capital.

“Boston is our hometown, so it was important that the hotel reflect the heart and soul of the neighborhood,” Ryan Sillery, principal and owner of City Point Capital, said in a statement. “We’re proud that the Cambria Boston Downtown manages to convey a genuine ‘Southie’ experience while embracing the area’s innovative future—and thrilled to work with Choice to bring this hotel to life.”

Features of Cambria Boston include a 4,000-square-foot rooftop bar and lounge with a capacity for 240 patrons; a ground floor bar and cafe serving breakfast, lunch and dinner; and a multi-function event space overlooking Boston’s city skyline with capacity for 200 people. RODE Architects designed the 159-room hotel at 6 West Broadway. Hospitality group Meyer Jabara Hotels will manage the property, and Bernardo Gubert is the hotel’s general manager.

The hotel’s opening comes at a time of great change in the South Boston neighborhood. Cincinnati-based consumer goods giant The Procter & Gamble Co. last week said it has launched an assessment of the 34 acres it owns in South Boston, a property that’s located a stone’s throw from the Cambria hotel. And developers including Alexandria Real Estate Equities and Tishman Speyer have targeted the A Street corridor, also down the street from the Cambria, as a prime location for life-science/lab development.
