The Rajasthan tourism department is attracting tourists from West Bengal focusing on a back-to-the-roots theme, and also reviving the historical connections. Senior officials of the department, who are in Kolkata to take part in the Travel and Tourism Fair (TTF), said that West Bengal is a huge source market for Rajasthan.

To quote Alok Gupta, principal secretary, department of tourism, “Opportunities for trade and commerce might have fuelled the migration of Rajasthani people to West Bengal since pre-Independent days. But they are fond of their state and want to come back as tourists to have taste of their forefather’s land and its culture.”

Mr. Gupta said that in general, people from West Bengal who love to travel, have a special place for Rajasthan in their hearts. They love visiting Jaisalmer Fort, Mount Abu and other places. When the pandemic and vaccination programmes decrease, tourist movement is expected to pick up pace. Rajasthan Tourism is taking part in TTF as a partner state and picked up the award as the safest destination for tourists.
