The historic Grosvenor Hotel in London has completed a multi-million pound refurbishment and will rebrand as the Amba Hotel Grosvenor from December 10, 2019

It was previously run by owner GLH Hotels as a Guoman, but is now joining GLH’s properties in Marble Arch and Charing Cross in the small, four-star Amba brand.

The hotel has remained open while all 345 rooms have been gradually renovated over the past year.

The new-look rooms contain Hypnos beds, blackout curtains, desks, tea/coffee-making facilities, mini bars, travel-themed artwork and digital radios, as well as books, plants, cushions and blankets.

Business Traveller stayed in the first refurbished room in November 2018.

The Grosvenor Arms restaurant (below), The Soak bar and the Tea Room lounge have also been given a refresh.

A new set of meeting and events spaces will be available from spring 2020.

The Grosvenor (not to be confused with the Grosvenor House Hotel in Mayfair) opened as a station hotel in 1862 and today is a Grade II-listed property with a large Victorian-style reception.

Alan Morgan, chief executive of GLH Hotels, said: “We’re hugely excited to be extending our Amba Hotels portfolio with such a historically significant and iconic London hotel venue.

“We can’t wait for our guests to see how we have married the heritage of the properties with stylish, modern amenities.

“The relaunch of this hotel marks a new era for the Amba brand, and we have no doubt that the Amba Hotel Grosvenor will be a success.”

GLH owns the Guoman, Thistle and Thistle Express brands, as well as Amba.

It is operating the new Hard Rock London hotel under a franchise arrangement.
