The 560-key Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel & Spa in California has revealed the results of its property-wide transformation in partnership with Gensler.

Hyatt Regency has reimagined its outpost in Monterey, California, taking inspiration from the surrounding environment to blur the lines between indoor spaces and the outdoors.

The start of a new chapter

The legendary Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel & Spa has now emerged from a complete renovation that spans the property’s 560 guest rooms and suites, as well as its public areas. As the region’s largest conference hotel, this property has more than 40,000 sq ft of meeting space, and its outdoor amenities have been bolstered by the inclusion of a new outdoor lounge with fire pits, hammock garden and enhanced walking paths.

“We are extremely proud to welcome guests to experience the reinvigorated Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel & Spa,” said Kevin Ellis, general manager. “The renovation restores the legacy of this iconic hotel through a distinctive design transformation and inviting outdoor amenities. Honouring the rich history of the property, Hyatt Regency Monterey pays homage to California’s natural beauty, golfing culture and Route 1 drive for the quintessential Monterey experience.”

Tapping the expertise of Gensler

For this renovation, the hotel partnered with San Francisco-based design firm Gensler. The property’s new look takes inspiration from Monterey’s natural landscape of sand dunes and cyprus trees, while also drawing on the original architecture, which is reminiscent of Craftsman design. Consequently, the textures and colours of each guestroom now reflect the flora, fauna and fog of this region, and design details take their cue from Craftsman woodwork.

New dining concepts created under the culinary direction of executive chef Dan Elinan include the open coffee bar concept of Central Coast Provisions; signature restaurant Sea Root, which on opening in spring 2021 will highlight local produce in Mediterraean-inspired dishes, along with craft cocktails; and Roam Service, offering guests food and drink delivery to wherever they are on the property. The popular Knuckles Sports Bar, meanwhile, will reopen in the autumn with a refreshed menu.

On top of all of this, the rejuvenated wellness facilities here include a new 3,000 sq ft fitness complex complete with steam and sauna rooms, and a spa offering an impressive range of treatments.
