PANAJI: The hotel employees federation of India (HEFOI) will support the one-day nationwide strike on January 8, 2020 in a bid to draw the government’s attention towards the plight of hospitality workers.

The HEFOI, which is a member of the global union federation – international union of food, tourism and agriculture workers, at its two-day convention on Sunday, passed the resolution to be part of the strike.

Some of their demands are 10 % service charge as recommended by the parliamentary panel, equal pay for equal work, end to sexual harassment at the workplace, to abolish fixed-term and contract employment, an eight-hour workday, health and safety measures for all workers and protection against lay offs and retrenchment.

The resolution was unanimously passed by the delegates and all state units have resolved to support the nationwide general strike on January 8 in large numbers, and will also run a massive campaign up to the general strike, ” said N Vasudevan, president, HEFOI.
