Featuring stunning design from Erin Martin and HBA, the wine-led Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley in California is nearing completion.

Due to become its eighth property in California, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts’ newest offering is quite literally immersed in vineyards.

A new concept for Napa Valley

Napa Valley’s first and only resort set within a working winery, the project is ensconced at the base of Mount Saint Helena at 400 Silverado Trail in the laidback town of Calistoga, best known for its rich history, natural hot springs and mud baths. The much-anticipated scheme will open its doors in early spring 2021.

Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley promises to be “an extraordinary destination set amid the vineyards where wine, wellness, culinary and design all converge,” according to general manager Mehdi Eftekari.

Acres of vineyard views

Surrounded by hundreds of acres of vineyards, the property has been designed by Erin Martin together with HBA to make the most of some breathtaking views, with an understated aesthetic using natural materials like timber and leather in low-key hues. Its 85 rooms, one-bedroom suites and The Estate Villa – a freestanding building at the edge of the vineyard – will boast fireplaces and private terraces.

When not experiencing the best that Napa Valley has to offer, guests will be able to wind down at Spa Talisa. Here, inspired by Calistoga’s 150-plus years of healing tradition, signature treatments will use indigenous ingredients and outdoor steam pods.

Elsewhere, there’ll be two outdoor swimming pools, the fully supervised Kids for All Seasons programme and a series of events spaces. These include the Calistoga Ballroom, the adjacent Lakeside Lawn and the Vineyard Barn, a rustic-chic, light-filled space with high ceilings, large barn doors and sensational vineyard views.

Top-notch winemaking

Several dining experiences will be offered to guests, including a destination restaurant from renowned chef Erik Anderson, though the highlight of any visit, of course, will undoubtedly be the wine. The programme is to be operated by Calistoga resident and winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, who has made a name for himself as a non-interventionist, creating wines that showcase the vineyard above all else, and bagging himself 25 perfect 100-point scores on his cabernet sauvignon projects from renowned wine critic Robert Parker Jr over the past decade.

“Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley is the only property in the region that sits on an active winery, so guests will be afforded a true grape-to-glass experience in illustrious wine country,” said director of marketing Kelly Nelson. “The resort will afford guests unique opportunities to taste complex, age-worthy wines and enjoy immersive, hands-on and educational experiences and tasting sessions steps from their rooms.”
