10-Jan-21 – A top to bottom renovation of Four Seasons Hotel Chicago has been completed.

It is the largest renovation of the 347-suite hotel, located on floors 30-46 of 900 North Michigan, since it opened in 1989, according to McHugh Construction Company, the project’s general contractor.

McHugh says it renovated the hotel’s one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites, two-bedroom and three-bedroom condominium units, Presidential Suite, and a 2,700 square foot luxury suite in the corner of the 46th floor. The old restaurant was gut-rehabbed and turned into a new restaurant called Adorn, the bar of which includes a chandelier made from 1,000 pieces of glass. The project, described by McHugh as “multi-million dollar,” took about one year.

“We have completed nearly every high-end hotel renovation project in the city of Chicago,” said Kate Ivanova, Vice President of McHugh Construction, “so we were eager to dive in and apply our experience to the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago.”

Nearly 20,000 square feet of stone, including 8,000 square feet for the lobby and restaurant floor, were selected and installed by Chicago-based GI Stone.

“The reception desks had to be elaborately ‘bookmatched,’ a process where multiple slabs are ‘opened up’ and polished on surfaces facing each other to create a mirror image,” explained Sandya Dandamudi, President of GI Stone. “And to match the original stone of the hotel’s grand staircase, we traveled to a quarry in Italy to find the perfect slab.”

McHugh says this is its 16th hotel renovation in Chicago. Other hotels the company has renovated include Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, Hyatt Regency Chicago, The Peninsula Chicago, The Ritz-Carlton Chicago, and Waldorf Astoria Chicago.
