The Dörr Hotel, located at 2329 Mill Road, will be the first new hotel in Sister Bay in 17 years. The hotel developer Bayland Buildings Inc. broke ground on the new Door County hotel Dec. 3.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. is supporting the Sister Bay hotel project with a $250,000 community development investment grant, according to a WEDC press release.

The new hotel project will renovate downtown Sister Bay with a lot that has been vacant for nine years. The Dörr Hotel replaces the 45-unit Helm's Four Seasons Hotel, which the village tore down in 2007.

"For the past dozen years, the Village of Sister Bay has been executing a progressive plan to enhance the vibrancy of the community, and the results have been unmistakable," Door County Economic Development Corp. executive director Jim Schuessler said in a press release. "Not only is the addition of Dörr Hotel the next logical step toward continuous enhancement of the community, but the hotel will in many ways serve as the centerpiece for Sister Bay's growing four-season economy."

The new boutique hotel will have 47 rooms including nine fireplace suites. The hotel will also have 4,300 square feet of retail space, a large lobby and concierge service. The Dörr Hotel website is already active and will begin taking reservations in spring 2020 for accommodations in 2021.

“A vibrant downtown is vital to a community’s overall economic success, and the Dörr Hotel will play a key role in attracting more visitors to downtown Sister Bay to enjoy the many amenities the village has to offer,” Sam Rikkers, deputy secretary and chief operating officer of WEDC, said in the release. “I applaud the community for working together on this important project that will serve as a foundation for future economic growth.”

The new $8.1 million hotel project is expected to be completed by 2021. The WEDC reported that the Dörr Hotel will have between 10 and 15 full-time employees.
