TOPHOTELCONSTRUCTION data shows Austria has 94 projects in the pipeline with about 11,000 rooms to be added.
Austria’s hotel market looks very promising in the coming years thanks to numerous new projects, especially in the luxury sector.
Strong growth is imminent
A total of 94 projects with about 11,000 rooms are currently in Austria’s pipeline for the next several years. 19 of them are to open in 2019.
With 28 new hotels, 2020 will record the most growth in the near future, bringing more than 4,000 new rooms to the Austrian market.
For 2021, 15 hotels are planned so far, and for 2022 only 6. However, it is quite likely that these numbers will increase over the next few years.
A focus on the capital
24, or a quarter of the planned hotels are to open in Vienna and bring the capital over 5,000 new rooms.
Four properties will soon open their doors in Innsbruck while Graz and Salzburg will each receive three new hotels.
The small town of Schruns, a popular destination for hikers and winter sports enthusiasts, will have three new openings which testifies to a healthy tourism sector.
The luxury sector is picking up
Of 94 new projects, 64, or two thirds, fall into the 4-5-star category. This trend shows how much hoteliers and investors are focusing on the growth of this exclusive market.
In stark contrast, only seven budget hotels with one or two stars are planned.
Diverse growth
New openings in Austria are not just coming from a few large chains which means the market will continue to diversify and offer guests a variety of accommodation styles to choose from.
However, there are a few brands opening multiple properties in the Alpine nation. Best Western and Amedia hotels each have three new hotels in the pipeline. TUI Blue – The Experience Hotel and Ibis Styles want to launch two properties each.
Let’s take a look at a few more hotel projects in Austria:
