A technical issue with Carnival Vista's maximum speed, which forced the ship to alter its June 15 itinerary, has resulted in further voyage disruptions. Two June cruises will now take an additional night each (with one departing a day later than scheduled), and three July cruises have been cancelled completely for Vista to undergo repairs.

Since the issue affects Vista's maximum cruising speed, a cruise scheduled to leave Galveston on June 22 will go from a seven-night cruise to an eight-night cruise, now departing on June 23 and returning on July 1. This shift affects a second June cruise, scheduled to depart on June 29; that cruise will now depart on July 1 and will also last for 8 nights, returning on July 9.

Carnival Vista will then be removed from service for 17 days while being repaired, which means three cruises -- originally scheduled to depart on July 6, July 13 and July 20 -- have been cancelled completely.

The ship is expected to return to service on July 27.

Passengers on the June 23 and July 1 sailings will not see any difference in cost for the additional night; they will also receive onboard credit and a 50% future cruise credit. Those who choose to cancel will receive a full refund and a 50% future cruise credit.

All passengers booked on the cancelled sailings will receive a full refund and a 100% future cruise credit. Carnival has also offered reimbursement for any airfare change fees or related expenses from the new itineraries and cancelled voyages.

The issue on Vista is related to the bearings on the ship's main propulsion system; all four will be replaced during the dry dock. Although Vista is currently sailing at a reduced speed, Carnival reports that all of the vessel's safety systems are functioning normally.
