The TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database reveals that almost 1,000 hotel projects will complete across APAC in 2021, including standout schemes from St Regis, Hyatt Regency and W Hotels.

Some 960 hotel schemes featuring 226,450 rooms are expected to come online over the course of 2021, our researchers have discovered. We take a closer look at five of the very best.

The St Regis Qingdao, China

On opening in the first quarter of 2021, this five-star hotel in China’s eastern Shandong province will be part of port city Qingdao’s tallest building. Taking up the mixed-use development’s first, third, fourth and 52nd to 70th floors, the new St Regis hotel will pair an array of culinary experiences, wellness facilities and event space with far-reaching views over the Yellow Sea. The design is led by architectural firms CCDI Group and Archilier Architecture, along with interior design firm LTW Designworks.

Guests will be able to drink and dine in five restaurants and bars, unwind in a wellness space featuring an indoor pool, fitness centre and luxury spa, and host business events in 18,000 sq ft of meeting rooms. The St Regis butler service will be offered in all of the hotel’s 242 guest rooms. In this city, fast emerging as a tourism and shopping destination, attractions include the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Centre, Wusi Square Coastal Plaza and Badaguan old town. The hotel’s location on West Hong Kong Road places it near these sites and just 16 miles from Qingdao Liuting International Airport.

Sheraton Wenling Hotel, China

Designed for business and leisure travellers, this new Sheraton property, which is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2021, aims to enrich the quality of life for local residents as well as hotel guests. Reaching up to 300 metres in height, the hotel tower holds a prominent position on the western peninsula of a new urban waterfront district. Architectural firm Woods Bagot has designed this prominent structure with ecological sensitivity in mind.

This hotel, which has interiors by HBA, comprises 352 guest rooms, the Sheraton Fitness centre, an indoor pool and a spa, while the all-day dining and signature restaurants will offer a diversity of cuisines. Events can also be hosted here in 4,259 sq m of function space. The conveniently located property is a mere five minutes from Wenling Economic Development Zone and a 30-minute drive from Taizhou Luqiao Airport.

Hyatt Regency Almaty Rahat Palace, Kazakhstan

The second quarter of 2021 will see the launch of Hyatt Regency Almaty Rahat Palace following a major refurbishment. On reopening, the Satpaev Avenue property, which traded as Hyatt Regency Almaty between 1995 and 2011, will connect business and leisure travellers with Kazakhstan’s largest city.

The newly renovated property will feature 292 smartly configured guest rooms, creative culinary experiences, a multifunctional lobby, a signature Hyatt StayFit gym, an indoor swimming pool and spacious event facilities including a 2,368 sq ft ballroom. Through these facilities, the hotel will provide a space for people to relax, meet, engage and recharge.

Holiday Inn Resort Samui Bophut, Thailand

IHG has partnered with The Platinum Samui Co to develop the first Holiday Inn Resort in Koh Samui, as well as a Holiday Inn Express. Both hotels are due to open late 2021. Holiday Inn Resort Samui Bophut and its sister hotel are just a 15-minute drive from Samui International Airport on a 40,000 sq m site at Fisherman’s Village on the island’s northern coast.

Holiday Inn Resort Samui Bophut will encompass 150 resort-style rooms, including specially designed Family Suites and Kid Suites, along with family-friendly amenities like a Kids Club and Kids Stay & Eat Free programme. This four-star property will also comprise restaurants, a coffee shop, a library, a fitness centre, a swimming pool and business facilities. The resort promises to offer the same friendly service and modern facilities that Holiday Inn has become known for elsewhere, along with 24-hour room service.

W Osaka, Japan

Opening in early 2021, W Osaka will mark the arrival of the W Hotels brand in Japan through a partnership with the property’s owner Sekisui House. The 27-storey newbuild created by the world-renowned Osaka-based designer Tadao Ando sits amid the boutiques and restaurants of the major thoroughfare Mido-Suji Boulevard, providing access to luxury shopping and entertainment just one hour from Kansai International Airport.

Boasting W Hotels’ signature bold design, W Osaka will be home to 337 striking guest rooms, including 35 suites, two Wow suites and an Ewow suite, as well as multiple dining and cocktail concepts including the Woo Bar and a second bar on the poolside Wet Deck. Wellness facilities here will include the fitness centre Fit and the Away Spa, while event space caters for both business and social gatherings.
